Digital Sidewalk appears in several parts of this work. The distinctions are straightforward, but they matter when citing a paper, identifying a project, or following an older link.

Digital Sidewalk Lab is the research and publication unit of Pip Projects, Inc. The Digital Sidewalk is the title of my 2025 dissertation. Digital Sidewalk is also the name used for the research framework described in that dissertation and related publications.

The Lab carries the research forward through methods, datasets, tools, and publications. Gravel9 is the company's separate applied and commercial unit. The Lab–map–radio overview explains how the research can contribute to that work while retaining its own purpose.

Why older records say StormNet

StormNet was the working name used for the sensing console and phone-based field test in 2026. The September 2026 naming guide brought that work under Digital Sidewalk Lab and retired StormNet as the active brand.

The older name remains useful when locating the original console address, source files, and dated records. Keeping those references allows someone to connect a current description with the artifact produced at the time. It does not establish a separate current business or product.

The April 2025 naming record describes the division between the research identity and Gravel9's applied work. That naming decision is separate from the dates of earlier research activity and the founding of the parent company.

For new work, the affiliation is Pip Projects, Inc. and Digital Sidewalk Lab. For historical work, the citation should retain the title and organization recorded on the original publication.
